Ruin in Western Victoria

My piccie of the day is a shot of a ruined farm house in western Victoria.
I took this last October on one of our weekend day trips.
I asked the farmer if could walk into his canola (rapeseed) crop to get a closer look.

How old do you think it is? Almost looks as if you could make the structural repairs and move right in.

Hi Anne
I guess the front part is quite old.
By the style of the bluestone masonry that it uses I guess it would be from 1860-1890.
It certainly can't be from before about 1860 because that is about the earliest European settlers were in the area.
The current farm house looked to be built around 1950-1960 so I guess this one was abandoned around 50 to 60 years ago.
The original stone part of the house is sound could certainly be used to rebuild. The back part was timber and is on the verge of collapsing.

I love how this poor structure looks so lonely and yet so majestic! I think it's the ominous clouds that do it! Yay! Take care

What a wonderful picture. I dunno why, exactly, but I'm always drawn to falling-down structures, especially old weathered barns.

I think it is on the Sunraysia Highway between Learmonth and Avoca.
(On the right hand side heading away from Melbourne)
